Vision, Mission, and Purpose
Our vision is for the UK to be recognized globally as a leader in delivering high-quality research that is inclusive, accessible, and transformative for health and care.
Our mission is to empower the health and care system to attract, optimize, and deliver research throughout England.
We focus on two core purposes:
This approach aims to:
Why We Transitioned from CRN to RDN
The UK’s health and care research needs have evolved and will continue to do so. Building on CRN’s achievements, the RDN was established to broaden the scope of research across more health and care settings, providing consistent, collaborative, and customer-focused services.
By functioning as a single organization with shared responsibility across the RRDNs and RDNCC, we aim to:
Our focus is on supporting the entire RDN Portfolio rather than individual studies, including building strategic capacity and capability to ensure the health and care system can conduct all types of research effectively, now and in the future.
A commitment to continuous improvement, learning, and value for money underpins our services, ensuring they evolve to meet the changing needs of our stakeholders and the UK health and care system.
We are building a sustainable, adaptable organization that is prepared for the future. Our goal is to cement the UK’s reputation as a global leader in high-quality research that is inclusive, accessible, and transformative for health and care across England and the wider UK.

The Research Delivery Network (RDN) is funded by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) to enhance the health and care system’s ability to attract, optimize, and conduct research across England. Established on October 1, 2024, it succeeded the Clinical Research Network (CRN).
The RDN is comprised of 12 Regional Research Delivery Networks (RRDNs) and a Coordinating Centre (RDNCC), all working together under unified leadership as one cohesive organization. We contribute to NIHR’s mission of improving the nation’s health and economic well-being through research.
